Worship dominated my life for years….at least my church life. I loved leading my congregation in musical worship. I’ve never known the same kind of joyous abandon I’ve felt as the many voices were joined together, raising our hearts with praise to declare the glories of our God and Creator. I still feel echoes of those experiences deep within my soul.
I have no idea where those desires went. Leaving the church, again, has meant many things that bring me more peace and more contentment in my relationship with God. But there is no substitute for the joy of worshiping together with a group of other Christ followers. There is no substitute for the feeling of community that results from many hearts joining together at the same time, with the same focus, to declare that we, together, know the greatness of God, and the intimate love He has for all of us. It’s one of the few things I really miss from those days.
I hope someday I’ll find a group of Christ followers who also love to raise their hands and faces to God, speaking our love and praise, joining together as a community who follows the Way. Until then, I’ll join my heart with His and worship Him through writing, through enjoying His creation, and through meditating on the other gifts He’s given.
Note: Today I’m joining with the writers at “Five Minute Friday,” with today’s prompt “worship.” When you have a minute, take a look. I know you’ll find something to provoke your thoughts and perhaps even inspire you to link up, too!
