God is infinitely kind and infinitely tactful. ~ John Punshon, Encounter with Silence
I have a lifetime of misunderstanding God’s nature. I was taught at an early age to expect God to be harsh and impatient. It took me awhile to begin to see the error of that picture. I’m continuing to learn that God is merciful and gracious, which means I have to remind myself about God’s grace and mercy almost daily. The good thing, though, is that it’s through my growing understanding of the kindness, mercy and grace that are fundamental to God’s nature that I begin to understand how to treat myself and others with gentleness.
This is Day 26 of 31 Days of Soul Tending and the focus is treating myself with gentleness. I appreciate the reminder in the quote from John Punshon that just as God has no beginning or end, God’s kindness and tact are also without end. That’s a hopeful thought on this quiet Sunday.
